Royal Bengal Tiger in India
The Sunderbans, Ranthambore, Dudhwa, Sariska, Kanha, Srisailam, Nagarhole and Parambikulam are the major tiger reserves in India.
Ranthambore Tiger Sanctuary
Film makers and professional photographers favor the park due to the diurnal behavior exhibited by the bengal tiger population which adapted to the changes brought about by an inspired park director, Fateh Singh Rathore. The relocation of nine villages from the core area to new land outside the park boundaries proved to be a resounding success, especially for the wildlife in the core area, and in particular the bengal tiger. With far less human encroachment in the park the tigers shed their nocturnal cloaks and tiger encounters rose dramatically during the eighties.

Bandhavgarh Tiger Sanctuary
Although this is a relatively small park in the last few years this former game reserve has become one of India's most prominent National Parks. The major reason for all the interest is Bandhavgarh's high density of tigers that roam the mixed forests of sal and bamboo in search of an easy kill. Tigers such as Sita and Charger, and more recently Dhitoo, Mohini and Sita Bachi, have not only bolstered the local population by breeding successfully, they have also brought international media attention to the park and the plight of the Bengal Tiger.

Kanha Tiger Sanctuary
The park came under the Project Bengal Tiger umbrella in 1974. At nearly 2000 sq. km Kanha is one of India's largest parks, and after Sunderbans, home to the second largest population of tigers. Over the years Kanha has received a fair amount of international attention, having featured in numerous newspaper and magazine articles. It is one of the best places to see tigers in the world and many argue that it is one of India's best run National Parks. Jeep safaris enable you to view larger areas of this vast park, and offer the mobility to track tigers by following fresh pugmarks and alarm calls. As in Bandhavgarh elephants are also used to track wildlife.
